This year, Temple Christian is proud to introduce Pioneer Academy, an enrichment program for homeschooling families. The program features many opportunities to go along with standard homeschooling curriculum, such as physical education, Spanish, music, band (5-12th grade), computer, creative writing, and hands-on science experiments. These classes are taught by existing TCS staff, and are held on Tuesdays (10 a.m. – 2:50 p.m.) for grades three through five, and Wednesdays for kindergarten through second grade.
“It’s a good program because some classes are hard to teach at home,” Mrs. Helser, coordinator of the program and a former homeschool mom said during an interview. “Homeschooled students can come to TCS and can get all their enrichment classes in one place instead of having to travel to different places.”
When students were asked what they like best about Pioneer Academy, Timmy Campbell (5th grade) stated, “You get to do the same things as other kids. My favorite class is band.” Cody Motter, a third grader currently enrolled in the program said that he enjoys gym and that his favorite game is bowling. “My favorite thing to do is science,” said Graham Plikerd (3rd grade). “The coolest science experiment is microscopes.”
In addition to the enrichment classes, students are also given the chance to participate on school sport teams, go on fieldtrips, and be a part of school programs.
Pioneer Academy costs only $75 dollars per month, and classes are still available for additional students. For more information, contact the school office at 419-227-1644 or click on “Pioneer Academy” on the TCS website.
