Temple Christian high school students had the opportunity to perform before judges at Lima Senior High School on February 2, 2013. The Ohio Music Education Association Solo and Ensemble District 3 Competition was offered to students in this region to allow them to play an instrument or to sing in front of judges. After performing, the students received a rating of one through five with a one being the best.
“Overall, they did exceptionally well. It’s more about the preparation than the actual performance though,” said Mr. Crites, Temple’s band director.
Eight students from Temple high school’s choir and band attended the Saturday event. Adrienna Engle sang “Velvet Shoes” and received a rating of one. Israel Whitman performed “Air Gai” as a trumpet solo and also received a one.
Participant Lydia Shenk said, “It is a good way to get another opinion on your playing.”
Mr. Crites commented, “Non-musically, it prepares you for job interviews by being ready to perform on the spot. Musically, it challenges you to play out more and play different pieces than you regularly play with an ensemble.”
Congratulations to all of the students who represented TCS at this year’s competition!
