After losing four solid players from the 2015 team due to graduation, the 2016 volleyball team is looking to develop the crop of up and coming talent, along with utilizing the current senior’s leadership and experience to forge out into the new season. Temple Christian, having a historically solid volleyball program, had hit a relative rough patch the last couple of years. Injuries plagued the team last year, and their coach went into offseason conditioning stressing the importance of staying healthy and playing together. The overall vibe around the team is optimism, with team members hoping they can do their best and turn in a great season for the seniors and fans.
Senior middle blocker Abigail Durst said it best when she stated, “We may not be the biggest or tallest team in the area, and we cannot control that, but we can control how hard we work, and how much heart we play with, which definitely gives us the potential to have a successful season.” Another senior starter, Madison Yingst, also believes that while this team may not have the depth and athleticism of teams in the past, they will play together and represent Christ and their school as best as possible. “I am looking forward to the season, playing with my friends in my last year, and competing in front of my friends, family, and fans,” Yingst stated.
All in all, it should be very exciting to watch the team play this year. After having a solid summer together, the team believes that should be able to compete well this year with other schools in the area. As you see the team members at or around the school, be sure to give them some encouragement and attend some of the games!
