Last school week stirred much excitement as the students and staff awaited the weekend for our annual Homecoming events on Friday, October 7th and Saturday, October 8th. Although there was no powderpuff football game this year, we did have some new additions and fun changes! We were blessed with tremendous weather to have events outside at the TCS Soccer Complex on both Friday and Saturday. All the activities made for two unforgettable days at TCS this school year!
Friday night students, staff, parents, and others enjoyed their time at our hot dog and pulled pork dinner, face painting, cornhole tournament, and hay rides. At 7:15 Randy Waters caught our attention as he announced the beginning of our Fall Sports Pep Rally. Athletic students in fall sports from elementary through high school were announced team-by-team with their coaches and a little synopsis of their fall sports season. Reminiscing about each team’s season and their awesome accomplishments put smiles on many faces and even brought some laughter. The varsity golf team, especially, enjoyed being honored for their incredible season as NWCC champions, sectional champions, and competitors in an incredibly close district tournament.
After the sports teams had finished their pep rally, the 2016 Temple Christian Homecoming Court lined up to be introduced. This year’s Jr. Homecoming court consisted of Queen Bailey Schoder and King Easton Benjamin. Freshman attendants were Lizzie Helser and Malachi White, sophomores: Aubrey Breitigan and Dakota Clay, and juniors: Heather Goliver and Noah Howell. The eight senior attendants in the running for this year’s 2016 Homecoming King and Queen were Kierstin Kirkendall escorted by Ty Callahan, Jacqueline Sweeney escorted by Rylan Ward, Abigail Durst escorted by Seth Hohlbein, and Kaitlyn Sutton escorted by Judah Whitman. Mini biographies were read about each court attendant after they were announced, and were followed by joyous applause.
Once the homecoming court was introduced, everyone made their way to the TCS Gymnasium for two entertaining volleyball games. The varsity soccer and golf teams united to team up against the varsity volleyball girls in a one set match that the volleyball girls dominated. Next up alumni from volleyball teams years past came back and rallied together to compete against the current varsity team as well. Another victory was proven by this year’s team and ended the first day of homecoming, but much more was awaiting the next day!
Events kicked off Saturday morning at the TCS Soccer Complex with breakfast at 10:00 and kids vs. parents soccer games half an hour later. At 11:00 the candy launcher made its debut! Forty-five minutes later, everyone came to the field for the homecoming parade, where this year’s homecoming court attendants, including last year’s Homecoming Queen Sabrina Ciminillo, escorted by King Joey Hutchison, rode in on various Corvettes drove by generous owners who blessed us with their use for the event. Anticipation arose at noon when this year’s homecoming king and queen were to be announced. Congratulations to Queen Jacqueline Sweeney and King Rylan Ward for winning this year’s homecoming court royalty!
At 1:00 the varsity soccer kicked off to later complete a 4-1 win against Lincolnview, making for an incredible 2016 Homecoming! Thanks to all the alumni who returned for a memorable weekend and to everyone who contributed to making the events possible! It was a blessed 14th annual Homecoming for the 40th anniversary of such an impactful school!
