TCS 2016 Girls Basketball

Lady Pioneers Basketball Tips Off

As the winter sports season begins, the girl’s varsity basketball team has been conditioning and preparing to compete in current scrimmages leading to their first game that was held Friday, November 25, against Vanlue here in the Covered Wagon. Under Coach Kristin Davis, ten of our high school athletes will be playing multiple NWCC teams in the 2016-2017 school year, including rivals Mansfield Christian and Monclova Christian. On Saturday, November 26, the team scored a celebratory win against the above rival, Mansfield Christian. An away game, it was their first win of hopefully many for the season.

Among the ten on this year’s team are seniors Alana Delgado and Maddi Yingst: Delgado normally as post and Yingst as a guard. The eight other individuals are juniors Heather Goliver, Morgan Callahan, Madelyn Crawford, Aryn Recker; sophomores Saige Biglow, Leslie Delgado, Sophie White, and freshman Crystia Beasley.

Senior Maddi Yingst is looking forward to all this last season will bring. When asked how she feels about it being her last year on the team, Yingst shared, “It’s good and bad. It’s sad because it’s my final season. I’ve been on many teams with many good girls, and it’s taught me a lot about patience and being a leader.

Yingst also has personal goals for this season, arriving at new challenges due to junior Morgan Callahan’s disability leave. “With Morgan being gone, I have to be our main offensive player, so I have to step up and play a position I’m not as comfortable in and be a leader through that.” She is also working towards being the leading scorer of the team for the 2016-2017 season.

Temple is very excited about the varsity girls win last Saturday, and Yingst believes it won’t be the only one. “We’ll definitely win a few more games.”, she shared, “Even though our team is smaller, we’ve improved a lot.”.

Yingst has enjoyed her seasons of basketball and will miss bonding with her team, especially at their movie nights. She has created many friendships through the sport and will miss her teammates after the season closes. Congratulations to her and the varsity team for their win, and best wishes for a great season with many victories! Go Lady Pioneers!
