Hello TCS families. As we enter the Christmas season, I would like to reflect for a moment on the true meaning of Christmas. Isaiah 9:6 says, “For to us a Child is born, to us a Son is given, and the government will be on His shoulders. And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” We serve a wonderful God who loved us enough to give His only begotten Son to come to this earth and die for our sins, that we may have eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Enjoy the Christmas season with your family. Here are a few news items that we wanted to share with you. Have a great weekend!

Elementary Christmas Program:
Congratulations to Mrs. Smith and the elementary students for the excellent job they did presenting their Christmas program Tuesday evening. Thanks for helping us celebrate Jesus’ birth.
5th Annual TCS Spelling Bee:
Congratulations to all the contestants who participated in this year’s TCS Spelling Bee, which was held on Wednesday. The students who participated were 4th graders Shaelynn Rager and Nolyn Wright; 5th graders Austin Clevenger, Elizabeth Kinnear, and Nehemiah White; 6th graders Isaiah Kiser and Malachi Menke; and 7th graders Leyton Chambers and Lexie Greer. Elizabeth Kinnear won 3rd place, and Leyton Chambers won 2nd place. The TCS Spelling Bee champion this year is Lexie Greer. She won in the 26th round of the bee with the word “writhing.” Lexie will represent TCS at the Allen County Bee on February 23 (10 a.m. OSU campus, Lima) and the Lima News Scripps Regional Spelling Bee on March 16 (10 a.m. Knights of Columbus Hall, Lima) with a chance to win a trip to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in May. Great job, students!
Public Relations Field Trip:
Temple Public Relations students visited an Ohio Northern University Public Relations class Tuesday morning. TCS students watched college students do on-camera interviews for mock crisis communications scenarios. In addition, the watched students doing on-air radio interviews conducted by a broadcast journalist. Our TCS students were able to work the control board in the news studio, and Chance Dyer was able to test his crisis communication skills. He stepped in front of the mic for a radio interview where he answered questions about one of three mock situations. He did an amazing job. The college students, the journalist and professor were all very impressed!
School Safety Drill:
Temple Christian School conducts safety drills each year so that our teachers and students can be prepared for an emergency situation where we must lock-down the building and classrooms in order to ensure our children’s safety. We will be conducting a school safety drill on Wednesday Dec. 12th.
Staff Christmas Luncheon:
The TCS staff will enjoy a nice Christmas luncheon on Dec. 14th thanks to our teacher appreciation committee comprised of several TCS parents. Thanks to the committee for putting together this special luncheon.
You may have heard some mooing and baaing around school today. This morning, the 3rd grade class presented in chapel. The students did a Reader’s Theater about the birth of Jesus. The characters were Mary, Joseph, Angels, Shepherds, a cow, and sheep. It was a fun way to think about Christmas.
From the School Nurse:
‘Tis the germ sharing season. Our nurse Mrs. Sweeney visited several TCS classes and did a Glo Germ presentation. The students were shown how easily germs can be spread from person to person and how they can be diligent to help stop the spread of germs. The students also used a special “germ” lotion and washed their hands. When they returned, we used a special black light and the “germs” that remained after they washed their hands glowed. The students saw how important it is to wash their hands properly and how germs can still remain if they do not wash properly. Please continue to reinforce healthy handwashing and germ prevention practices at home. We are praying for a healthy rest of the year!
