Hello TCS families. As we enter the Christmas season, I would like to reflect for a moment on the true meaning of Christmas. Isaiah 9:6 says, “For to us a Child is born, to us a Son is given, and the government will be on His shoulders. And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” We serve a wonderful God who loved us enough to give His only begotten Son to come to this earth and die for our sins, that we may have eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Enjoy the Christmas season with your family. Here are a few news items that we wanted to share with you. Have a great weekend!
Elementary Christmas Program:
Congratulations to Mrs. Smith and the elementary students for the excellent job they did presenting their Christmas program Thursday evening. We realize there was a lot of preparation involved. Thanks for helping us celebrate Jesus’ birth.

The 2017 TCS Spelling Bee took place this past Wednesday. Congratulations to all of our participants this year: 4th graders Ava Jackson, Elizabeth Kinnear, Eilan Muniz, Russell Powell, and Nehemiah White; 5th graders Kaiden Frueauf and Isaiah Kiser; and 6th grader Leyton Chambers.
This year’s champion is Leyton Chambers, and he will represent Temple Christian at the Allen County Spelling Bee (February 17) and the Lima News Regional Spelling Bee (March 24). This year’s second place winner is Elizabeth Kinnear, and the third place winner is Isaiah Kiser. Winners received gift cards to Toys R Us, and the top two spellers won a one-year subscription to the online version of the Encyclopaedia Britannica. Congratulations to all our TCS spellers!

Senior Class Fundraisers:
Attached to this newsletter are two fundraisers that the TCS senior class is going to be doing over the next two weeks to raise money for their senior trip to Washington D.C. If you dread wrapping Christmas presents, then one of these fundraisers is for you! If you want to show someone that you care in a small and inexpensive way, then the other fundraiser is for you! Thanks for your support of the TCS senior class.
Staff Christmas Luncheon:
The TCS staff will enjoy a nice Christmas luncheon on Dec. 14th thanks to our teacher appreciation committee comprised of several TCS parents. Thanks to the committee for putting together this special luncheon.
School Safety Drill:
Temple Christian School conducts safety drills each year so that our teachers and students can be prepared for an emergency situation where we must lock-down the building and classrooms in order to ensure our children’s safety. We will be conducting a school safety drill on Wednesday Dec. 13th.
Elementary Christmas Ministry/Giving Opportunity:
For their Christmas project this year, elementary students have the opportunity of blessing two local organizations with items that allow them to minister to needy individuals and families in our community. Students were given a handout with specific items requested by Guiding Light Ministry, which is a faith-based organization for women who need help becoming self-sufficient. The organization provides shelter, education, guidance, and faith. The handout also includes items collected by the GAP Pantry. This is a ministry, here at Lima Baptist Temple, which provides household items for those who are less fortunate in our community.
Order your 2017-2018 Temple Christian School yearbook. Our student-created yearbook is $40 and optional name personalization is $5. Order forms were sent home with students. Please return the order form with cash or check payable to Temple Christian School (memo line: yearbook) to the Elementary Office or to Mrs. Searcy in the high school. You can also order online at www.jostens.com.
Do you have a jar full of Box Tops at home? Now is the time to send them to school! Our goal this year is $1000. In the elementary building, we have a monthly drawing. For every 25 Box Tops turned in, the student gets to pick a prize and enter his or her name in a drawing. At the end of each month, one name is drawn to win 2 free 4 oz. frozen yogurts from Menchies, a coupon for a dress down day, and an extra prize from the treasure chest. November’s winner was Isabelle Kinnear. The next drawing will be after Christmas Break.
