Weekly Newsletter

Friday – February 23rd 2018

Hello TCS families. I hope everyone has had a good week. Micah 6:8 says, “He has shown thee, oh man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of you but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God”.  This is such as good verse because it provides three very positive things that we can be doing to bring honor and glory to God.  What a great challenge! Here are a few news items that we wanted to share with you. Have a great weekend!

Kewpee Art Show:

Several TCS students will have art displayed at the Kewpee Invitational Art Show held at ArtSpace/Lima at 65 Town Square, Lima. Show dates are February 23 through April 7, 10am-5pm. Closed Sunday and Monday.  Winners will be announced at The Awards Reception on Friday, February 23 at 6:30 P.M. at ArtSpace/Lima. The following students have entries in the show: Madelyn Crawford has a Painting “Into the Woods”; Lydia Bassett has a Painting “Lanterns at Midnight” and a Drawing “Sliced Artichoke”; Brody Bowman has a Mixed Medium “She Said Yes”; Dakota Clay has a Jewelry entry “Infinity Gauntlet”; Jaela Shoup has Photography “Seaside Escape”; and Allison Durst has a Digital Medium “The Journey”.

Food Drive:

The TCS National Honor Society sponsored a food drive to benefit Five Loaves Food Pantry sponsored by the Church at Allentown. The TCS student body really responded well by collecting over 3,000 cans of food for the pantry. Classes competed against each other to bring in the most cans. The winning elementary class was our Kindergarten class (664 cans). They will receive an ice cream party. The winning high school/middle school class was the senior class (919 cans). They will receive a pizza party. Great job NHS and student body!

Grandparents Day:

Grandparents’ Day program will begin at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 1st. The program will be held in the sanctuary and will be approximately 30 minutes long. Grandparents of students in grades 3-5 will be invited to shop the book fair immediately after the program, while students in grades K4-2nd grade will be invited to browse the art show located in the LBT church lobby. (Please check students out of the classroom prior to shopping/art show). We will then switch groups at 1:00 and will invite K4-2nd grade grandparents and students to shop the book fair while the older students browse the art show. Grandparents are also welcome to spend time with their grandchildren during indoor recess in the classrooms. We ask that grandparents bring their grandchildren back to class no later than 1:30. We would like to alternate groups in order to help with overcrowding of the book fair. We look forward to celebrating our grandparents on this special day.

Boys Basketball Last Home Game:

The high school boys’ basketball teams will be playing their last HOME games tonight, Friday Feb. 23rd versus Monclova Christian Academy. The J.V. will begin at 6:00 P.M. and the varsity will begin at approximately 7:20 P.M.

Reading Month:

Our annual reading month celebration will begin on Monday for the elementary!  Teachers will be staying after school today to decorate all the classrooms and hallways to surprise the students on Monday. Students will be encouraged to read a certain amount of minutes each week (please see class flyer). We will have special activities each Friday during the month of March to celebrate reading month with a grand finale celebration at the end of the month.

Box Tops:

Do you have a jar full of Box Tops at home?  Now is the time to send them to school!  We will be sending them in next week.  This year we are using Box Tops money for special reading month activities.  In the elementary building, we will have a monthly drawing.  For every 25 Box Tops turned in, the student gets to pick a prize and enter his or her name in a drawing.  At the end of each month, one name will be drawn to win a prize. To help us out, please make sure the Box Tops are NOT expired and are cut out neatly.  Collection sheets are available in the elementary office.  Do NOT attach bonus Box Tops to the collection sheets. Thanks!

Re-enrollment for the 2018-19 school year has begun. Registration packets were emailed out last week. The packet is available on our TCS website and hard copies are available in the elementary office.  Please remember that re-enrollments fees are $100 before March 31st and $150 after. We look forward to the opportunity of continuing to minister to your family in the upcoming school year. Thank you for choosing Temple for your children.

The athletic department sent out a survey to K5-12th grades last week regarding spring athletic opportunities. Please take a few minutes to fill out the survey to assist the athletic department as it plans for the upcoming spring sports season.  Here is the link for those that still need to complete the survey https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/9SHVQVM
