Weekly Newsletter

Friday – March 9th 2018

Hello TCS families. I hope everyone has had a good week.  Philippians 1:6 says, “Being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus”. This is a great encouragement that the Lord is not finished with any of us; He continues to mold and shape us  for the great plans He has for us. Here are a few news items that we wanted to share with you.

Creation Museum Trip:

Temple Christian’s Senior Class is visiting the Creation Museum in Petersburg, Kentucky today. Thanks to all of those who donated Creation Museum Passes to alleviate the costs for our students. This is an awesome experience for our seniors.

Reading Month:

Reading month is in full swing here in the elementary. We are having tons of fun with our tropical adventures. Today, students enjoyed a movie and snack as a fun reward for their reading. We will continue to partake in fun tropical themed activities in the classrooms and as a school each Friday in March. We are still in need of parent volunteers to help make our big reading month finale a success. If you would like to help, please email Mrs. Lawrence at lawrencej@tcspioneers.org.

Meet the Author Day:

We have a Meet the Author Day scheduled for March 14.  Karen Seelenbinder will share her books with our elementary students and walk them through the writing process she uses.  She will also visit their classrooms to work with them on their own short stories. Copies of her books can be pre-ordered so that she can autograph them while she is here.  Order forms and payment are due on 3/12/18. For more information, check out her website at www.karenseelenbinder.com.

Scholastic Book Fair:

Our Scholastic Book Fair was a huge success!  Our total sales were $4704.31, which allowed each elementary classroom to choose $230 in free books.  Thank you to all of our volunteers, parents and grandparents for their support!

Maple Syrup Tour:

On Wednesday, grades K4-5 went to Teddy Bear Park to learn about maple syrup.  As they walked a trail, students stopped at stations to find out facts.  One stop showed them how Native Americans used hot rocks to boil sap down to maple sugar.  Another stop showed students how the early settlers used kettles to boil the sap to make maple syrup.  Then, they discovered how it is done today.  Students had the opportunity to taste sap, sugar, and a small pancake with syrup on it.  It was a cold day, so students were able to finish their day with a cookie and hot chocolate.  It was a great trip.

Junior Class Visits Art Show:

The TCS Junior art students attended the Kewpee Art Show @ Art Space Lima on Wednesday. They also enjoyed an excellent lunch @ Hunan Gardens.

Temple Christian School conducts safety drills each year so that our teachers and students can be prepared for an emergency situation where we must lock-down the building and classrooms in order to ensure our children’s safety.  We will be conducting a school safety drill on Wednesday, March 14th.

Parking Lot Safety:

We would like to ask for everyone’s help in keeping our parking lot a safe place for our children and other drivers.  We are asking that everyone please drive slowly as you enter and leave the parking lot. Thank you for helping us with this important matter.
