TCS Newsletter – Friday, March 17th

Hello TCS families. Spring is just a few days away! Here are a few news items that we wanted to share with you. Have a great weekend!

On Monday, March 13th, several sophomore girls had the opportunity to attend the exciting OSU STEM Steps program. Dr. Megan Rutledge, the keynote speaker, discussed the role of women in STEM fields and how they can make a difference for future generations. Students experienced several different hands-on laboratory projects such as dissecting owl pellets, reversible chemical reactions, optical lenses, Mobius strips, and topography. The day ended with a lunch from Jimmy John’s.

ONU Math Day:

On Tuesday, March 21, sophomores Jonathan Acklin, Brody Bowman, Dakota Clay, and Seth Nickles will have the opportunity to participate in the Sixteenth Annual ONU High School Math Awareness Day. ONU Professors will be discussing the Fibonacci sequence and the “Square Wheel Problem”, along with leading a panel discussion on the ONU math and statistics experience.

“Hello, Dolly!” Musical:

In 1890s New York City, the bold and enchanting widow Dolly Levi (Kaitlyn Sutton) is a socialite-turned-matchmaker. Her latest clients seeking assistance are the cantankerous “half-a-millionaire” Horace Vandergelder (Brody Bowman) and a young artist named Ambrose (Adrian Williams), who is in love with Horace’s niece, Ermengarde (Anna Acklin). Dolly’s scheming soon involves Horace’s employees (Ethan DeLeon and Judah Whitman) as well as a New York hatmaker (Kierstin Kirkendall) and her assistant (Abigail Durst), as she tries to cover up her own secret romantic designs. The “Hello Dolly” production also includes many other students in the chorus, singing and performing the choreography for the many musical numbers. A big thank you goes out to all of the directors, along with those in charge of costuming, lights and sound. Also, thanks in advance for the parents and others who will be helping us set up the stage on Saturday morning March 25th. “Hello Dolly” will take place on the evenings of April 6th,7th, & 8th at 7:00 P.M. each night. Tickets are $7 and will be on sale in the high school office starting Tuesday, March 21st.

Art Field Trip:

The Temple Christian high school art students recently visited the Kewpee High School Art Invitational at Art/Space Lima. Twenty-two area schools participated in this challenging competition. Only 105 pieces are juried into the show that is on display until April 7th. If you visit Art/Space Lima, you will see the following TCS entries: D. J. Clay’s life size sculpture “You Can Wear It”, Kierstin Kirkendall’s scratch board drawing titled “Don’t Just Stand & Watch” and her sculpture of a mask “The Dance of the Monarch”, Kaitlyn Sutton’s scratch board drawing of a giraffe with attitude titled “You Got a Problem With It”, and Brody Bowman’s realistic drawing titled “Uncle Amos”. We were very pleased that our school was so well represented in this Northwest Ohio competition.
