Hello TCS families. I hope everyone has had a good week. It is hard to believe that we are down to our last week of school. I trust everyone enjoys the last few days of the year. Here are a few news items that we wanted to share with you.
Welcome to TCS:
Temple Christian School would like to welcome Mr. Christopher Hartman to our TCS family. Mr. Hartman has been hired to teach 3rd grade next year. Mr. Hartman was born in Holland, Ohio. He attended Toledo University, where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education. Mr. Hartman taught 2nd grade at Toledo Christian School before moving away from the area. He moved to Lima approximately one year ago. Over the past year, he has substituted at Temple, along with various other public and private schools. He is married to Kara Hartman. They are expecting their first child later this summer. Mr. Hartman attends Harvest Baptist Temple in Wapakoneta. He is a sports fanatic and enjoys working with technology. Mr. Hartman loves the Lord and has a passion for ministering to young people. Welcome to TCS Mr. Hartman!
Senior Music Accomplishments:
On Tuesday, Senior Dakota Clay was one of thirteen area students honored by the Lima Kiwanis Club at a luncheon for the 2019 John Philip Sousa award winners. Recognized for musicianship, leadership, and dedication to their school band programs, the students enjoyed a catered meal with their parents and teachers and then received trophies and certificates in honor of their accomplishments. A news feature covering this event can be viewed at the Hometown Stations website. Dakota has also been selected to be featured on WLIO’s “Scholastic Arts Spotlight,” and his story will be aired on FOX News at 5:00 and 10:00 PM on Tuesday, May 28th.
Student Government Elections:
The following students have been chosen by their peers to represent their classes and the student body by serving as the TCS Student Government for the 2019-2020 School-year.
7th Grade – Emma Engle and Malachi Menke
8th Grade – Leyton Chambers and Brianna Smith
9th Grade – Ilona Szuch and Kaylee Linhart
10th Grade – Darrick Clay and Anthony Mayer
11th Grade – Joseph Engle, Michael Engle, and Audrey Powell
12th Grade – Lydia Bassett, Allison Durst and Carol Smith
Third Grade Field Trip:
On Wednesday, the third grade went to Sauder Village for their year-end field trip. Students discovered what it was like to be a pioneer in the Black Swamp region of Ohio. It was a great day full of train rides, carriage rides, ice cream, and, of course, souvenirs.
Second Grade Field Trip:
On Thursday, the second grade took a field trip to Ft. Wayne Children’s Zoo. We had an excellent time learning about the different animals and exploring the areas of Africa, Australia, and the Indonesian Rainforest . We also had a great time riding the train and having a picnic lunch. Thank you to all of the parents that helped with transportation and chaperoning. You helped make this a wonderful trip!
Physics Class Experiment:
The Physics class decided to put their knowledge of momentum, impulse, and force to the test by constructing an egg drop experiment on Wednesday. Dakota Clay used an accordion style of folding in order to cushion the egg on impact, and Jonathan Acklin utilized a cone shape with folded cushions to maximize time and distribute force. The students then tested their models by dropping their eggs from increasing heights. Although neither egg survived through the end of the experiment, Dakota and Jonathan designed well-thought-out catching structures that were very practical and used the “Laws of Physics” to their advantage. The students enjoyed the critical thinking and application process of Physics.
Wednesday was the seniors’ last chapel service at TCS! The class of 2019 enjoyed a fun game of Win, Lose, or Draw. They then led everyone in worship. Seniors shared their favorite high school memories and advice for younger students. Finally, the staff and student body prayed over this wonderful group of seniors. May the Lord richly bless each of you!
Middle School Hero Day:
The Middle School P.E. classes enjoyed an afternoon at The Hero Day at the Lima Mall on Wednesday. The kids had a great time running through the inflatable obstacle courses, completing physical challenges, and doing relay races. Several kids won free passes to return. The staff was so interactive and friendly. It was great to see many smiling and sweaty faces!
If your child has medication at school, please be sure to stop by the office in your child’s building on the last day of school to pick it up. Medication cannot be picked up by students. Medication not picked by the end of school will be discarded.
2019-2020 Immunization Requirements for 7th and 12th grade students:
Incoming seventh graders for the 2019-20 school year will be required to have a Tdap vaccination and the Meningococcal vaccine prior to the start of the school year. The Meningococcal vaccine is also required for students entering 12th grade in the fall of 2019. These are state requirements. Students without proof of vaccination can be subject to exclusion from school.
