Hello TCS families. I trust you have had a good week. Here are a few news items that we wanted to share with you. Have a great weekend!
Re-enrollment for the 2017-18 school year begins next week. Please look for an email next week with all of the information you need for re-enrollment.
High School S.T.E.M. Field Trip:
On Thursday, 14 high school students visited Precision Thermoplastic Components Inc. in Lima as a S.T.E.M. field trip. The owners’ presentation of one of their divisions, 50 Strong Water Bottles Made in the USA, was engaging and informative. This was a great opportunity for our students to be introduced to the manufacturing world. The owners talked with the students about the different aspects of their business including concept development, engineering, marketing, and production. It was explained that there are many career interests utilized in their water bottle business including creative design, engineering, and marketing. The students were able to go on the manufacturing floor and view the production and packaging of the water bottles. They were attentive and asked great questions. It was a tremendous experience for our students.
College Credit Plus Meeting:
We will be hosting a College Credit Plus meeting Thursday night Feb. 23rd at 6:30 P.M. in the high school lunch room. The meeting is for all 7-12 students and their parents who are interested in taking college courses next year while at Temple. Over ninety-nine percent of the students participating statewide and at Temple have been high school students, but the program is technically open for middle school students as well. TCS students have taken courses here on our campus, online, and on the college campus itself.
Note from the Nurse:
Influenza has been very prevalent in our community this winter. We are also seeing a rise in stomach viruses and various illnesses. Reminder to parents: Keep your student home if fever and/or symptoms are present. Our policy is that students may not return to school until they are fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medications and 24 hours after the last episode of vomiting and/or diarrhea if they are experiencing those symptoms. This 24-hour rule applies to after school activities as well. If your child is home sick from school or sent home with the above symptoms or other illness, they should not attend school sponsored after school activities. Please also reinforce healthy habits with your child(ren). It is important to get plenty of rest and eat healthy; cover nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing; wash hands OFTEN with soap and water; and avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth. Thank you for helping us keep our students healthy!
National Honor Society Food Drive:
This month we are having an exciting challenge! The Temple Christian National Honor Society Chapter is sponsoring its second annual food drive! Proceeds will go to New Life Church International Food Pantry, and we encourage TCS families to be involved. It is a friendly competition between the classes in the school (k4-12) and is a great way to get involved in the community! The drive will be held Feb. 17-27, with our goal being 4000 cans!
Jump Rope/Hoops for Heart:
We had a great few weeks pumping our hearts and raising some money for the American Heart Association’s Jump for Heart fundraiser. We are thrilled to announce that, as of today, our school has raised $832! That falls short of our $1,000 goal, but that’s okay! In fact, the AHA coordinator originally thought for a school of our size that we should have a goal of only $500. I guess we exceeded her expectations! The gym classes had a great time celebrating this week with healthy snacks and music to get them moving! If you have forgotten to turn in any money, Tuesday, Feb. 21 will be the last day you can bring it. Please just give it to the office or directly to Mrs. Kinnear. Thank you, too, for all of the time you and your children have spent praying. Please continue to keep those with heart issues in your prayers.
Parents At Lunch:
We have rescheduled the K4-2nd Parents at Lunch event for February 21st. Lunch will be at 11:30 a.m. in the gymnasium. The Middle School Parents at Lunch will be on Thursday Feb. 23rd at 11:05 a.m. in the H.S./M.S. lunch room. Parents may pack a lunch, bring in a lunch, or order a lunch here at Temple for yourself and your child(ren). If you are ordering a Temple lunch, you must send in your order with your child in the morning. We must have all orders by 8:15 a.m.
Tuesday Feb. 21 is the next order day. You must place your online order by 8 A.M. and have your check in by 8:30 A.M. on order day.
Scholastic Book Fair:
Our annual Scholastic Book Fair is coming up soon! We will be open from 7:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. on March 1st and March 2nd and 7:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. on March 3rd. We need two volunteers to help with set up on Tuesday morning 2/28 and tear down on Friday afternoon 3/3. We also need two people to help run the book fair on Wednesday and Friday morning. Thursday 3/2 will be our busiest day due to it being Grandparent’s Day here at TCS. We need a lot of help that day! If you can help any time that week, even just for an hour or two, please contact Amy Link at 419-227-1644 or email@example.com. Visit our book fair online @ www.scholastic.com/bf/templechristiansch1.
