Dear TCS Staff and Family,

I hope that you are having a great start to 2020. On behalf of TCS and the School Board I would like to update you on a few items that concern Temple Christian School.

Mr. Bowman Health update

As many of you are aware our Superintendent, Bruce Bowman, stepped away from his coaching role at the end of December due to a medical condition. Mr. Bowman has heart surgery scheduled for February 13th and will be off campus for 6 to 8 weeks. His responsibilities will be covered by our existing administrative and school staff. If you know Mr. Bowman, you know that he doesn’t like being away from school, however, this surgery could not wait until summer. Please be in prayer for him as he recovers from this major surgery.

Building Update

In August 2019, the TCS school board made an offer for the entire Church property at 982 Brower Rd. We offered the full amount of the appraised value, unfortunately, the appraised value is significantly less than the Lima Baptist Temple would need to move to a different location / facility. “Where is the school moving?” I get this question more than any other question as it relates to Temple Christian. We still have 3 years left on our current lease, and are in no danger of being without a home. We will solidify our plans for a building in late 2020. The first 3 years of our plan are to focus on the growth of the school. It doesn’t make sense to move or build a facility that we quickly outgrow.

School Growth and Ed Choice

Over the last 3 years, we have experienced healthy double-digit growth in enrollment. In late 2019 we were made aware of changes made to the EdChoice school voucher system. These changes would have a significantly positive impact on TCS. The state of Ohio has two scholarship programs: The EdChoice Traditional Program was created for students who attend or would be designated to attend a failing school district. The EdChoice Expansion Program was created for families who meet federal income guidelines regardless of which school district they attend.

As of February 7th, the entire EdChoice program is being reshaped by the Ohio Congress. I wish I could give sold number and answers for how this program will work in the 2020-2021 school year. As soon as we have information on EdChoice, we will pass it along. Please be in prayer for this, as it would allow families of like faith to attend their school of choice. That is a game changer for Christian education in the State of Ohio.

School Meeting with the board

On Monday March 2nd, at 7PM in the main auditorium, we will have a meeting for all parents of TCS. In this meeting we will cover a financial update, EdChoice, the building, TCS strategy and answer any questions you may have about the school and our future. Please plan to attend this important meeting.

Cordially,

Jason Szuch
